Highway maintenance photographs, 1925.

Photographs documenting road conditions, maintenance work, and the landscape along state trunk highways and county trunk highways throughout Wisconsin, including the Menominee Indian Reservation. The images were made in 1925 by N. M. Isabella, who was a maintenance engineer for the Highway Commission.

The Highway Commission was created by Chapter 337, Laws of 1911. State Laws of 1929 reorganized the commission from a five person, part-time agency to a three-person, full-time agency. With the reorganization of state government agencies in 1967 (Chapter 75), the Highway Commission was placed under the newly created Department of Transportation (see WIHV85-A1884).
